Get Rid of Pesky Nutsedge for Good
Are you noticing odd tall, straw‑colored, or bright green grassy shoots popping up in your lawn that just don’t look right? You’re not imagining it — that’s likely nutsedge (often called sedge or nutgrass), and it can take over your lawn faster than you expect if not treated properly.
At Lawn Squad®, we’re here to help you take back your lawn and keep it lush, healthy, and sedge‑free all season long.
What Is Nutsedge?
Nutsedge isn’t your typical weed — it’s a perennial sedge, which means it looks grass‑like but is actually a completely different plant that doesn’t respond to most standard weed killers. It spreads aggressively through underground tubers (nutlets), making it notoriously difficult to eliminate once it’s established.
Unlike common weeds, nutsedge:
-
Grows faster and taller than most turf grasses,
-
Thrives in moist or poorly drained soil, and
-
Has triangular stems and clustered leaves that make it stand out from your lawn grass.
When this weed takes hold, it can weaken your turf, steal nutrients and water, and make your lawn look patchy and unhealthy.
