Water deeply once a week if you choose to water at all (about an inch, applied early morning), but do not flip back and forth between dry and soaked, which stresses the plant more than steady dormancy. Brown Patch: The July Disease Most Cincinnati Lawns Will See
Brown patch is the single most common summer disease on tall fescue lawns across the Cincinnati metro, and tall fescue is in most of our home lawns. The response is to stop watering at night (which extends leaf wetness and fuels the fungus), bag clippings until it stops spreading, mow when the lawn is dry, and consider a targeted fungicide application if the outbreak is moving fast. Dollar Spot: Small Bleached Spots on Bluegrass

Pythium Blight: The Fast One You Cannot Ignore

- Footprints stay pressed down in the grass for more than 30 seconds after you walk across it.
- Blades fold lengthwise (V shape) rather than lying open.
- Color shifts to bluish gray before turning tan.
- Soil pulls away from sidewalks and driveways, leaving a visible gap.
- A screwdriver pushed into the lawn meets hard dry resistance in the top three inches.
Drought stressed Cincinnati lawns need a long slow soaking, ideally an inch of water over a few hours so it penetrates rather than running off our clay. Repeat after three to four days. Avoid daily light watering, which encourages shallow roots and makes the next dry stretch worse.
The Ten Minute Walk Through
