Why We Don’t Price Match
April 16, 2021
You have probably seen many promotions from companies claiming to give you the best price or you may be receiving coupons in the mail stating your application can be as low as $29.99. We get many calls asking if we can price match and there is a list of reasons why we do not offer this.
The Fine Print
As consumers, we tend to purchase products based off price alone, but don’t take into consideration if the quality of the product matches the price. Each offer can be tempting; however, each coupon or deal come with a list of requirements that can be a deal breaker for most customers.
The offer will have a square foot limit, so depending on your size lawn, can make or break that offer price. These unbelievably low prices are designed to get the customers attention, known as Bait-and-Switch.
Everyone knows the $29.99 offer from you know who… but what they don’t share is that offer will only be valid for the first treatment and will also depend on the lawn size, so your price will not stay at $29.99.
Products
Just like many other products and service, not all lawn care products are the same. The quality of the product and the quality of the service will make all the difference in pricing.
Spread rates are very important when determining the cost of a lawn care application. Some companies may under-size a lawn, so even if they are using quality product, they may not be applying as much as your lawn needs. For example, if they should be putting 5lbs of product per thousand square feet down, they may only be putting 3lbs of product down to get you a cheaper price.
If they do size the lawn correctly, they may be using cheaper products for a lower price. There are different types of fertilizer and weed control, so if it is a cheaper product, you may not receive the expected results you paid for.
Service
The service performed is just as important as the product that is applied. Lawn care companies who use only trained and state certified applicators will provide a high level of service that other companies are not able to match. Those technicians are trained in the field and know the rate at which to spread product for the best results.
There are “site visits” that the national guys started, where they will come out to check on the lawn, may spray a weed here and there, and then leave you with a bill because it is included in your services. For example, if you sign up to receive 6 applications, one might just be a site visit, they may not be treating the lawn, but you are still being billed for the “visit.”
If you’re looking for the cheapest rate out there, as the old saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” If you are looking for experts in the field who are familiar with lawn problems and with knowing what applications could benefit your lawn, it might be worth it to pay a little extra to get expected results.
