Royalston Falls off Athol-Richmond Road is Royalston’s most dramatically gorge-carved and most genuinely remote waterfall destination — accessible 24 hours with a descending trail that is nicely maintained and not too long but very steep on the way back, a 45-foot waterfall between a narrow gorge, many places to explore along Falls Brook on the roughly two-mile round trip via the Tully Trail, a relatively steep grade towards the beginning half-mile, and a small parking area right off the main road — described as unique for the area with many places to explore along Falls Brook and a great hike with a relatively steep grade worth being prepared for, as a quick half-mile hike to falls requiring proper shoes especially if venturing into slick conditions with wet leaves and rocks, and as a beautiful and serene hike with cable rails at the steepest points near the falls.
